NOW WALK IT OUT…

Okay. I am a Jersey girl trying to make a living in the Big City of New York. Everyday I have to come up from the PATH train station and onto the street to walk to my job and everyday I notice the same thing…

New Yorkers DO NOT KNOW HOW TO WALK!!!! Please folks, walking on NY’s sidewalks is almost if not JUST like driving a car. Before you switch lanes please check the lane you’re crossing into and make sure that the person is far enough away for you to cross safely. I would hate to step on the back of your shoes and cause you to do that stupid studder step forward – especially when you could have avoided this collision by simply looking back! Not even a full look back – you can just glance to your left or right and see through your peripheral vision if it’s safe to move over, thank you.

Now, when exiting the train or subway station – PLEASE don’t stop immediately after exiting as there – HELLO – may be people behind you getting off as well!!! If you need to get your bearings please move at least 5 to 6 steps away from the doorway you have just left so I can get off and not ram into the back of you while you look from side to side. This also goes for ENtering the train car or subway station.

And finally – NY sidewalks are far too stuffed and busy for you to stop in the middle of the road and talk! Whether it’s to a person standing there with you or your headset – take your conversation to the side PLEASE! That way helping some of the folks from the first paragraph to avoid their mistake! Traffic would flow far better if we were to heed to these rules. Got it?? Okay!! Now WALK IT OUT!!!
